Weekend

Saturday I finally went to my dad's and made a small dent in his messy house. It would take a team of thousands to get it to white-glove shape. Turned into a fairly pleasant day with the temps in the 40's and sunshine. And since I have decided not to argue with him, we can actually be in the same room together for a lengthy period.

He has always been a little strange but the latest...
I told him he should try clearing his nose with salt water in a nosespray bottle. His solution is to wet his finger and dip it in salt, rub it in his nose and sniff hard. The man is impossible but I didn't argue, just pointed out why my way may work better. Then I dropped it.

Getting very diplomatic in my old age, don't you think?

Sunday I went to Upper Marlboro, MD to Kaleigh's Horse Show. She rode as an alternate today and placed 2nd and 4th. Improving with each show. Go Kaleigh!!!

My trip there could have ended in tragedy. As I approached the exit from 495 onto Branch Ave. traffic seemed a wee bit confused. There was a stream of traffic coming down the off-ramp onto 495 going the wrong way. It took a few seconds (stopping in the roadway along with others) and a cop blowing his horn wildly at us for stopping, for me to decide to go to the next exit and do a loop-t-loop and get on Branch Ave. that way. My hesitation is what gets people killed so I feel very lucky that I didn't die or get rear-ended. Still can't figure out why so many were going the wrong way on the exit.......

Thank you God !!!

Dinner with" A"

Ashly called yesterday to say that she was bored and didn't have anything to do tonight.. Imagine that!!!!!! It's Friday night. You are 17 1/2 yrs. old and all your friends are busy with family or they have been grounded for one reason or another. Tragedy!!! We can't have that. Maybe my "G' will take me to dinner and give me money for incidentals. Yes, what are grandmoms for? Sure hope she stays this close to me and will want to confide in me for many years to come. She leaves for college in the fall so maybe things will not remain the same??????????

Cold today.......didn't make it up to freezing but should get into the 40's by Sunday. I can only hope because I am going to a Horse Show on Sunday and those barns are not heated. I called today to see if by some lucky chance this one was heated but the girl who answered just giggled and said "dress warmly".

Tomorrow I will again attempt to push myself out the door to visit my dad.

Late openings today

We got 1-2 inches of snow and freezing rain yesterday so things are delayed 2 hrs. this AM. I'm trying to decide if I should go to work late or just go tomorrow. Decisions, decisions.........I am getting a little cabin-fever.

Saturday about 4:00 I went to meet with my "racing friends" and enjoyed a great evening of reminiscing. Got to see Tony this trip and, like I told him, I'm glad we got to meet again before we were using a walker or were too senile. I still can't believe these guys are 65-72 years old and still racing!!! Guess this proves that if you use it, you won't loose it.

Cold.......

...and snow and sleet may be on the way this weekend. The rest of the nation has had horrible ice and snow storms over the past month and for some reason we have been spared. Living right, I guess. We have enjoyed a very mild and , for the most part, warm winter. Loving it, so won't complain. And tonight I noticed that it was still light enough outside to see sky between the trees. IF WINTER COMES, CAN SPRING BE FAR BEHIND?

I spent 2 days this week with a sore back and couldn't straighten up. Finally gave in and took some Ibuprofen and knocked it out of me. So today I got out and went to grocery store, nail salon and Ross. Felt good to get some fresh air and see people.

Boring weekend ahead so maybe I'll run up to see my dad. I am feeling guilty about not going there since Thanksgiving. I used to go every weekend and clean for him and then we started arguing too much and it wasn't pleasant anymore. And also he keeps it too damn HOT in the house and it is musty and moldy. Is very stifling.

Another possiblity this weekend---------the SCCA is sponsoring a get-together in Falls Church and the guys I went to Danville to see in November will be in the area. I decided not to sign up to go to the dinner and meeting but maybe they will be available for chatting sometime.

Best laid plans

Well, here it is Thursday and I finally have a $326 new motor to put my window up in my Explorer. Don't know if this makes much sense because the vehicle is worth about $600 but it sure will be good to not freeze.

Finished my job (all but 1/2 strip where I ran out of paper) on Tuesday and took today off and I am going to take off again tomorrow but I am working on Saturday and Sunday. Why do I feel that an explanation is necessary when I take a day off? Guess it is the "good girl, bad girl" syndrome.

Anyway, I got my floors washed, dusted furniture, vacuumed and ironing done today so I don't feel like it was a wasted day. Now I need to rest from my day off. Still lots of papers to sort through so that should take all day tomorrow.

Not........

This was not a good day.

I still have a terrible head cold with the sneezing, snotting, stuffy ears and sore, watery eyes. Sounds great, huh?

On top of that , it was pouring buckets of rain this AM and I had to drive to work with my plastic flapping loudly in the wind (my window is still down). Of course, some rain was coming in and the plastic was making such a loud noise that I couldn't hear the radio. Pretty miserable picture!!!

Stripped a dining room and papered most of it but they had not taken a big clock off the wall so I had to paper everything I could and hope they take the clock down tonight. The paper stripped easily, thank God, and the new went up easily also.

Came home, called the garage about my window and they told me to hold the button down and beat the bottom of the door to jar it loose. Otherwise, go in to their shop after 4:00 tomorrow. Guess where I'm going tomorrow at 4:00???????

Sure hope this damn cold goes away. Early to bed, early to rise and so on and so on........good night!!!

Half Good Weekend

Saturday was a great day (except for 1 small problem*)...........post office, shoe repair, bank etc. Took my Christmas gift certificate from F2 (my brother) to Ross and spent the whole thing plus a lot. Funny, some times I go in there and find nothing and other times I want the whole store.
*My driver's side window won't come up again.

Went to Ruby Tuesdays with Susie at 5:30.

Sunday------

Window still won't go up so I duct-taped plastic in it to be able to go to the horse show. Silly me!!! About 1/2 mile down Rte. 66 it blew out and was flapping in the COLD breeze. I turned around and came home after a garage laughed at me when I asked if it could be fixed on a Sunday.

Then about an hour later my cold and flu symptoms returned and I slept all afternoon. Guess I pushed a little too hard this week and was not completely over the original illness. In any case, I have to work tomorrow---flu or no flu, window or no window, sneezing or no sneezing.

I have also been trying to get car info from a designer who's daughter is selling a VW which is exactly what Felicia wants. Sure hope it works out for her.

Late Thursday

It took me 6 hrs. to finish stripping the wallpaper today and scrubbing the walls to get them ready for painting. Sooo, I'll be returning tomorrow to PAINT. Will be glad to finally get a pay check on this one.

Took my little "power nap" at 5:00 today and now I can't get to sleep tonight. I keep getting drawn to this darn computer. It has turned into my best friend. Wish it could go to dinner with me.

Speaking of dinner----I called Susie earlier to meet me for dinner tomorrow evening. We used to go out to eat several times a week and I think we just got bored with it (or ran out of money) and we haven't been out in a long while now. Also it tends to put weight on the old tush.

Time to check my e-bay bids..........good night!!!

Back at the old grind

One small step for me and one large step toward earning money in the New Year.

My first day back working seemed like it was 56 hours long. I actually worked 7 hrs. but my body and mind feel like it was 56 hrs. (talking to myself--"So shut up and don't complain so much. At least you have a job.")

Will be going to sleep early tonight and resting very well, I'm sure!!!!

Home again today

I decided yesterday afternoon that I needed another day to recuperate so I called and postponed my 1st job of the year until Wednesday. Hope I didn't make a mistake and get myself too backed up but I really needed to relax another 24 hrs.

Now I am feeling a lot better and less tired all the time which should get me going tomorrow morning. I can only hope because I am stripping paper and painting a room. Will probably take 2 days to do this.

I decided to catch up on my ironing today and while doing so, I watched "The DaVinci Code". I love these conspiracy-type stories and I am glad that I had listened to the book first or I would have been lost as to the story in places. It also helped to be able to rewind and watch certain parts over again.

Last night around midnight I was surfing the channels and came on the very exciting end of the Oklahoma-Boise State football game. Boise State won in the last few seconds of OT with a 2 point conversion. Now I wish I had seen the whole game.

At 3:30 this afternoon, I decided I needed to get out of here and take a walk to get fresh air. So I got bundled up and walked around the woods about the same as I did when I had the dogs. Felt great to breathe cool, fresh air so maybe I'll start doing this again every day. And I found a dollar bill in the woods which I did a few other times when I was out with the dogs. Kind of like getting paid to exercise. Can't beat that!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

"2007"

When I was much younger, I thought that I'd never live this long. Look at me now, I have not only lived this long but made it in relatively good health. (You'd never know it today because I am still battling a cold but nothing serious).

Anyway, the only reason I saw the BALL drop in Times Square was because I had to pee at 11:52 and forced myself to stay awake. Now does that sound like an exciting start to the New Year???

I went to Teri's yesterday to exchange gifts and then went right back to bed. Guess the older we get the longer it takes to fight these pesky little sniffles.

I will probably lay around all day today to try and get my energy back.
