Finishing a successful day

After my nap, I fed and walked the dog, shampooed my hair, talked on phone, ironed my clothes and now..........to bed.

Good Night!!!

Checking My List.........

Done as of 2:50 PM.
1.Showered and walked dog

2.Glued seam in Sterling (turned into an hour job because they had some drywall problems)

3.Went to DMV and renewed my license (it's that time where I needed an eye test and new picture to show how old I'm looking)

4.Called garage where I get oil changed to see if they do emissions test and they don't. So put all that on the back burner. Still have a month so what's the hurry.

5.Stopped at Safeway.

Now I'm back home in the "blessed cool" (it is close to 90 outside) and may just resort to taking a nap. The rest of list can wait for a few hours.

Things to do.......

These are things that I should get done today......

1.Shower, shampoo, walk dog.
2.Glue a seam in Sterling - 10:30 AM
3.Go to DMV to renew driver's license (expires today)
4.Get oil changed, tires rotated, regular inspection and emissions inspection (tags are due in June)
5.Grocery shop
6.Pay bills.
7.Walk dog.
8.Iron clothes.
9.Etc.

Love these days off!!!

Twice today......

Well, I did finally get going today.

Did 3 loads of laundry, mowed the back yard and trimmed, talked on the phone, took a nap and went to CVS. Could have done more but also played some with my computer.

Talked to Deb about Barkley and she says she gave her cat, Metmucil or Mineral Oil to clean her out. So I had to go to CVS to get both of these to try and see if that is his problem. Will definitely sleep with the door open tonight. Gave him 2 tablespoons of mineral oil. Let's hope this does it because I can't stand the vet we go to. But then I don't like any doctor.

Tomorrow is back to work so have to get to bed early tonight. Hopefully I'll get finished so I can have Wednesday off.

Blessed unscheduled holiday !!!

Love unscheduled days but never seem to get started at anything. 9:30 and I still haven't brushed my teeth. Have lots I need to do but if I never get around to them, that's okay too.

The new computer installation on Saturday was hectic, took 9 hrs and is still not finished. I felt so bad for Teri and Paul because things were not going well.
Mike has much more connected to his computer than expected so the wireless router that they brought would not support it.

I am pirating from a neighbors wireless signal until we get a new router bought and installed. Also I have my dial-up to rely on as a back-up (thru June 13) in case the other person cuts his signal. Oh happy day!!!!!!!! Wish I understood all of this more.

I'm sure they will get all this worked out so I need not be concerned.

Yesterday I had to go appease a customer by washing a small mark off her new wallpaper that I didn't do but she says she didn't either. A Real Mexican Stand-off but I think she is happy now. Some people are never totally satisfied. Hey, it's only wallpaper, for God's sake!!! Had to drive 40 minutes to complete this task and then 40 minutes back.

Promptly headed back to the sofa and slept until 4:20. Guess Saturday had really knocked the wind out of me.

Met Susie at 5 PM for dinner and to get us out of the house for a while. That's important at our age.

Now on to see if I can accomplish any little thing today.

Saturday AM...waiting

I am waiting for Teri (my daughter) and her friend Paul to get here with my new computer. She decided I needed a new one, so she got it for Mother's Day and my Birthday.

They have spent the last 2 weeks getting it set up over in Maryland and today is switching out my old info to the new computer.

I think I am glad, but I hate change. It seems like a monumental problem(in my mind)changing to new ways of doing things. Trying to stay optimistic.......

They are also adding a wireless connection so I have faster and better service. This is where I see the problems coming up but we'll see.

Spent last night clearing off my desk so they could find the old computer (lol). Cleaned behind the desk which was a mess. It's amazing how much dog hair, dust, dead bugs, lost papers, etc. can collect in a year.

Will update later, I promise!!!!!!

10 days later..........

Can it possibly be 10 days since I entered anything in my blog?????? Life is passing me by really fast.

Guess I signed on this AM to see what I have been doing lately and surprise, surprise. Nothing here!!! Guess I thought a "ghost writer" may have signed on in the wee hours.

I promise myself that I will bring this up-to-date this evening. Right?!?!?

Organizing and Packing

Finally Tuesday and I am getting my clothes together to stay at my dad's from tomorrow till Sunday. Sara's wedding is Saturday so I have to remember to pack "dress-up" clothes including panty hose, God Forbid!!!!

I know I make a big deal out of small things but that is just my personality. I have to wait until my mind is cleared of everything else so that I can start a new project or I am scattered and forget things. This must be Adult ADHD but I can control it. I drive everyone crazy in the process but it works for me.

Also scheduled an estimate this afternoon in Ashburn, which was dumb, but it is a deadline I have to hit today.

Yesterday I stopped at Used Book Store to get more books on tape with my credit, Marshall's for a sweater for wedding (because it is going to be quite cool on Sat.) and Ross and got 2 prs. of shoes that are possibilities for wedding. Now I have to try all together and check how I did with my purchases.

Mike will be here sometime this evening to take over dog duties and then I am off to visit tomorrow AM and relax. Not working till next Monday. Yeehaaaaaaw!!!!!

Mother's Day ??????

Actually got out of here early after all the foot dragging. On the road by 9 AM, arrived 10:35. No stops today so made good time. Walked in and thought "this place needs more than the 3 hrs. I thought I would devote".

At 2:20 PM I left and had made the mess at least partially go away. Remade bed in Master bedroom for company, wiped down baths and cleaned toilets, vacuumed living room and dining room, washed dishes and cleaned kitchen (as much as possible) and did 2 loads of wash. Made a huge dent and it is now presentable for my brother and his family to move in tomorrow for 7 days.

Oh darn!!!!!! Forgot to turn thermostats back up to the 75 degrees my father keeps them on. It gets so hot in there that it's like a sauna especially when you are cleaning. Up to 85 usually because he keeps the woodstove burning for entertainment.

My sisters' daughter, Sara, is getting married next Saturday and this is the reason for the company. I will be going to Pap's also on Wednesday to spend the rest of the week visiting and attending the wedding in Waynesboro, Pa.

I love getting together with F2's family (my brother, Frank Jr.) because we are around the same age ( I am oldest) and we have so much in common that we can talk for hours and hours. He is the brains and has incite into any subject that comes up. He is constantly studying and researching any thing that catches his interest. A real "nerd" but brilliant.

On my way home, I stopped at Trader Joes for a few things and after the 1 1/2 hour trip and drinking coffee, I barely made it through the store without having an accident. My bladder gets smaller every day.

Tomorrow is another work day out in Occoquan and Tuesday I will get my things together to leave on Wednesday. Mike will be home Tuesday evening and will be here to tend to Barkley.

Happy Mother's Day.......

Surprise, surprise !!! My son just called to wish me a Happy Mother's day. He is my "rogue" son and it is hard to explain everything he has put us through, so any attention from him is unexpected.

Morning!!!!!!!

Already dragging my feet this AM. I think I overdid it a bit yesterday and tired this old body out. Fell asleep and didn't get the movie finished. Oh well, what's another couple of days fine? Blockbuster is making millions off of people like me.

Have to get my routine started but am dreading it.

Dog needs to be fed and walked, I need to shower and get on the road. And we are supposed to get heavy downpours and thunder storms today. Barkley will be cowering when I get home. He hates the "boom-boom".

The Good and The Bad

The good first......the sofa is here!!!

The bad.......after picking it up I got stuck in the funeral traffic for the police officer shot on Monday. They had all the main roads blocked and some of the side roads. After turning around and going through some developments, I made a 15 minute trip in about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Thanks again and again and again to Carlos and Tony. They were finishing their late lunch when I finally got here and carried my sofa in for me.

Before the sofa pickup, I met Susie at Applebee's for lunch and then to Lowe's to buy work supplies. I also found a rug while there, to go with the new furniture for Mike. Now all I have to do is wait to see if Mike likes all my purchases. Too bad if he doesn't because it is done now. I think it all looks very good and a vast improvement over how he left it a month ago.

Then I decided the yard needed cutting and trimmed. Took a little nap and then did my ironing.

Now tomorrow I feel like I can go to Pap's to clean there and not leave too much undone here.

Think I will finish watching "The Weatherman" tonight and return it on my way out in the AM. It's only 7 days late.....oh darn !!!

Best Laid Plans.......

Well, my plans to pick up the sofa went up in smoke or should I say "down in rain" ? We got the heavy downpours they were calling for so we cancelled the pick-up. But thanks again to Carlos and Tony again, we got the old sofas to the curb for the garbage truck. Now have to pick another time........

I finally completed the job I've been on all week and what a relief. I prefer single room jobs so that I don't have to go in the same direction each day. Guess I am spoiled. The bigger jobs have a bigger paycheck though so I shouldn't complain.

Well, I think I am off to more yard sales in the AM to see what else I can find. Still need a rug for Mike and there must be something that I can't live without. The Boy Scouts are having their big sale tomorrow so I will definitely try there.

Slow Job

Well, I have managed to work so slowly on this job that I will definitely be there all day Friday. Have to pick up the speed tomorrow or I may not be done on Friday. Not a bad job, just all bathrooms with lots of little nerve-wracking pieces. But, hey, it's work.

I have my plans together for tomorrow night to pick up the sofa I bought on Saturday at a yard sale. Susie is going to meet me at the ladies house and the son is going to help get the sofa in my truck. Then she will follow me to my house and my neighbors, Carlos and Tony, are going to get it in for me. Also the old sofas have to go out to the street for trash pickup on Friday morning.

And now I hear on the news that we are going to get heavy downpours tomorrow afternoon and night. So all my carefully made plans may go up in smoke.

Swat Teams

I got home from work to find our street blocked off from both directions and police with rifles everywhere, including at my truck window when I tried to come down the street.

Some people outside on another street told me there was a shooting and not too many other details. I'm thinking, I have to pee and this has been blocked off for over 2 hrs. already and besides my dog is probably going wild with all the lights and sirens. I need to get home...........so I circle around, park on a side street and walk across our street in front of TV crews and police like I belong here. Walked down a path to the woods behind our TH and came in the back gate. Nobody stopped me nor did I see anybody in the woods.

I peed and fed the dog and turned on the TV only to find out that there had been several policemen shot, one died and the one suspect lives on the street behind the woods in back of us, where I had just walked. I'm really surprised they weren't patroling the woods. There were helicopters, police cars, swat teams, armored trucks, etc. in front of the house but nothing in the back. Can't figure that one out.

Bet I will lock the door tomorrow when I leave for work!!!!!

Speaking of work------things went really well today and it looks like it will be a full 4 days work, if not into the fifth. And tonight I scheduled a job for Monday the 15th so I won't be going to Pap's until Tuesday for the rest of the week. My brother and his family are coming in from Seattle for the week and to attend our nieces' wedding on the 20th. We always have such good visits and I hate to miss a day with them but work is work. Won't take anymore for the week though.

Also will not be leaving the door open for fresh air tonight......

Dog -Tired

I worked my butt off today (I wish) cleaning upstairs and carrying my work equipment up to the spare bedroom. Am so sick of looking at it in the living room and after 6 yrs. I finally figured out what to do with it. Nobody uses that bedroom anyway so why can't ladders live there????

Also cleaned the upper bath and reloaded my daily work equipment back in my truck.

Got a call this AM that all the paper is in for my job this week so it will a really full work week. Still have to figure out how to get the new sofa home.

Tonight I went to Safeway to get ingredients to make my muffins that I eat every day and cigarettes. This is the second time I have gone there in this month and they have been out of bananas. I am so sick of these grocery stores letting their stock go so low. So I bought their store brand peanut butter and went to Giant to get the rest of the stuff. I stopped going to Giant over a year ago because they were going through the same thing with running out of basic items. Don't know where I'll try next. Problems, problems!!!!!!

It has started raining and it is so peaceful sounding. Just a soft , steady rain that I am going to go to bed and just curl up and listen to.

Yard Sale Success

The day started off pretty slowly with almost an hour of junk and then I ran into Susie in Chantilly. I set off to find a sofa and love seat for Mike with his okay to spend up to $300. Hit the jackpot at one house--------almost new leather sofa $200, matching large recliner $50, a great push lawn mower $25 and 2 prewired little fir trees for the yard $10. (The trees were what caught my eye and said "you have to stop here". Glad they did because the furniture was not outside.

Susie also got a navy blue leather recliner at the same house for $50. I have a feeling this was a divorce situation because all the masculine stuff was going.

I am so pumped up that I can hardly contain myself. Now I have to get the old sofas out for the trash and go back and pick up the sofa which they are holding for me. My very kind neighbors helped me get the chair in and put together. Don't know what I'd have done without them. Thanks Carlos and Tony!!!

I also picked up a new microwave that someone had set out for "free" at the curb.

All that has to happen now is that I win the lottery to finish off my great day. That won't happen though cause I haven't bought a ticket. Maybe next week.

T.G.I.F.

Well, here it is Friday AM and I have forgotten to add to my blog since Tuesday. Time flies when you are having fun.

Wednesday I worked at cleaning and rearranging things on Mike's 1st level. I am going to start looking for some new sofas for him at yard sales this Saturday, if it doesn't rain. Hope it doesn't since I am pumped to finally have an excuse to go Yard Saling again. I have no clue how I will get them home if I find some but will figure that out later.

Thursday I hung 14 borders in a house in a gated community out in Woodbridge and I am going back today to paper a bath and add more borders today.

Peaceful......

The title reflects the way I have felt all day. I hope this doesn't mean it's the quiet before the storm.

I mowed the back yard this morning, filed my state taxes by e-file(a day late, oh well), wrote some checks, went to bank and P.O. and Blockbuster. Then I went to Nancy's and pulled weeds in her front yard and we went to a late lunch at Chili's. Walked the dog twice and most important, watched American Idol.

The weather has been just perfect.

It only took me 37 minutes to get work yesterday. The "illegal aliens" were getting attention by taking the day off and trying to shut the country down. They sure helped me because traffic was low in both directions.

And the day went very smoothly and I got finished my work so I don't have to go back today. Yes, another day to goof-off. Yeeehhhaaaaaawww!!!

Teri called last night and is trying very hard to figure out what to do for my birthday. She wanted to get me a new TV but I discouraged her with "mine is fine and probably has a year or so left in it". Now she has found a real deal on a Dell computer and we know that my HP is dying a slow death. It's 6 yrs. old and has memory added twice so I have given it a good run for it's money.

So, she is going to buy the Dell and set it up, come download everything from mine to the new one and take this old one and clear the hard-drive to sell it at work. All very complicated to me but that is what she says we have to do.

And we are going to buy a wireless router to install so that I get faster service. There is already a computer connection upstairs on Mike's computer so I understand this is the thing to do.

Sure wish I knew what all this meant but I sound intelligent explaining the process.......I just don't know my a-- from my elbow when it comes to technical things.

Now we have to wait until June to put all of this into reality because of time constraints and schedules.

I told Nancy that I would weed her front yard this afternoon because the guy she hired didn't show up over the weekend. Think it was a language problem and her hearing is not too good either. It always makes me feel good to help others, within my abilities. It's that old "need-to-be-needed" syndrome. Makes me feel important, I guess.

So, I need to get busy with my things so that I can be over there by 1:30.

Monday Morning Blues

Here it is Monday morning and I am facing a full day of work. Just what I have been wanting but now it doesn't seem too appealing.

Saturday was pretty much a nothing day as I was recuperating from the late night on Friday. We had a wonderful time but getting to bed a 2:30 AM knocked me out for the day.

Sunday I papered a powder room in Fairfax City because the fixtures were out and that made work a lot easier.

Today I have to go to Woodbridge but it is way down Rte 1 at Belmont Bay. Will probably take an hour to get there. Oh joy!!!!!
